Shattered Dreams in Poth is March 10-11
You’re sitting in class -- suddenly a heartbeat comes on the intercom. The grim reaper comes in your class and takes one of your classmates. On the intercom someone says that your classmate has died in a drunk driving accident.
Shattered Dreams, a mock version of the consequences of driving while drinking, will take place at Poth High School on March 10 and 11. This event will give students the real-life effect of losing someone dear to driving drunk.
On March 10, expect to hear emergency vehicles and law enforcement responding to the high school. This will be a staged event that will sound and look real but is controlled by school and community personnel. Some roads will be closed due to the mock crash.
Many students have agreed to participate in this event. They will attend a workshop to discuss the event, and students and parents are required to write an obituary, describing their life. This event is emotional for all students, teachers, and parents of those who participate. A mock memorial service will take place on March 11.
When asked what she thought this program would teach her, one student replied, “The reality of what could happen if you drink and drive, and all the pain you and others would have to go through because of a very dumb decision.”
