Immanuel Lutheran Church is now hiring for a Youth and Family Ministry Director. Pastoral: Minister to youth and their families during Sunday School and other church programs, being present in their lives outside the church walls, available for common concerns and in crisis situations. Leadership: Recruit and nurture Youth and Family Ministry program. Administration : Manage the planning process and coordinate with Pastor and Youth Committee all regular ministries to youth and their families. This includes youth of all ages on Sunday mornings and mid-week events; assisting with Confirmation, special events, trips and retreats, and parent meetings. Stewardship: Ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of youth programs, manage youth ministry budget, and collaborate with the sponsors of each Youth group. Ability to build, lead, and empower youth. Ability to implement a ministry vision. Familiarity with Lutheran Doctrine required; must be comfortable teaching it and representing Lutheran Theology. Proficient computer skills using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, database, email, internet, and social media. Supervisory experience preferred. Ability to adapt and evaluate curriculum preferred. Must have excellent organization, communication (verbal and written), and listening skills, with a high degree of initiative and accountability. Exceptional interpersonal and relational skills required, with sensitivity to church members and visitors. Understanding and enjoyment of youth and families and guiding their spiritual development. Betty Pierdolla Gipson, 74, of Austin, Texas, passed away Tuesday, Feb. 22, 2011. She was born on April 15, 1936.

Betty was preceded in death by her parents, Fred Louis and Ruby Lee (Stahl) Pierdolla.

She is survived by her husband, James “Jim” H. Gipson of Austin; her daughter, Peggy Bates and husband Bruce of Cedar Park; her sons, Paul Curtis Gipson of San Marcos and David James Gipson of Austin; her grandchildren, Jason Philip Grams and wife Stephanie, Angela Elizabeth Grams, Lesley Erin Barrera and husband Joe, Lacie Leann Grams, Kimberly Denise Baze and husband Charles, Steven James Schmidt, Eaton Tyler Bates, and Spencer Cameron Bates; 10 great-grandchildren; her brother, Fred Pierdolla Jr. and wife Cherry; and her sisters, Colleen Bownds and Wanda “Pippin” Von Mindon.

A visitation will take place on Wednesday, March 2, from 4-8 p.m. in the Finch Funeral Chapel in La Vernia.

A funeral service will be held on Thursday at 9:30 a.m. in the funeral home chapel.

Interment will follow at 11:45 a.m. in the Fort Sam Houston National Cemetery in San Antonio.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the American Heart Association, P.O. Box 841125, Dallas, TX 75284-1125.
