The 81st Judicial District Attorney’s office, which includes Frio, La Salle, Atascosa, Karnes and Wilson Counties, is accepting resumes for an Assistant District Attorney position. The selected candidate will work directly under the Border Prosecution Unit Initiative dedicated to Human Trafficking/Human Smuggling. Responsibilities of the position include working closely with federal, state and local law enforcement agencies, felony intake, preparation of cases for grand jury, negotiating pleas and representation of the State of Texas in pretrial proceedings, as well as in criminal bench trials and jury trials in District Court. All applicants must be a graduate of an accredited law school and licensed to practice law by the State of Texas and have a minimum of fifteen (15) years prosecutorial experience and extensive felony trial experience. Charlie Leonard O’Brien Sr., 76, passed away Monday, Feb. 21, 2011. He left his life of wonderful memories to his family in his ranch home in Blanco, Texas. He was born on April 28, 1934.

Charlie’s life consisted of building the refineries and power plants that led the industry ground floor. He was a member of the American Insulators Local No. 87, from Corpus Christi, San Antonio, Austin, and surrounding areas. He was also a union licensed plumber. He worked various jobs with his dad and ranchers on many South Texas ranches, including the King Ranch and Chapman Ranch. He began plumbing at the age of 19. He worked on various other industrial constructions.

Charlie was preceded in death by his mother, Elizabeth Zoller; his father, Otis Naomi O’Brien; his sister, Mary Mikeman; his brothers, George and Leo; and his daughter, Debra Sue Graham.

Charlie is survived by his daughters, Becky Doeppenschmidt and Bill and Kelly Pierce and Morris White; his son, Charlie O’Brien and Shannon of La Vernia; nine grandchildren; three great-grandchildren; and friends who loved him dearly and will cherish his laughter and amazing stories. He is also survived by his wife, Barby Harris O’Brien and her children.

A memorial service will be held on Saturday, March 12, at 10:30 a.m. in the Crofts Funeral Home in Blanco, with an honored luncheon at the Old Blanco County Courthouse.

In lieu of flowers, Charlie’s wish is that you plant a fruit tree; his favorites were peach, apple, plum, fig, and pear.
