Falls City’s Colin Dziuk goes up for a basket during the Beavers’ 38-33 regional quarterfinal loss to Mason March 2. The Beavers played an abbreviated basketball season this year, but finished with an overall record of 11-3, while winning the District 31-1A title and earning an area championship.
DRIPPING SPRINGS -- The Falls City varsity Beaver basketball team didn’t play a very long season, but it made the most of its time, and advanced to the regional quarterfinals before falling to Mason March 2 by the score of 38-33.
Tyler Wiatrek led the Beaver offensive effort with 11 points in the contest, followed by Luke Swierc with 10 points. Matt Wiatrek scored 5 points, Colin Dziuk scored 4, Luke Mynier dropped in 2 points, and Brady Zunker sank a free throw.
“I am very proud of how these guys came out and competed with such a shortened season,” said Beaver Head Coach Travis Ehrlich. “We only had 14 games, yet they worked hard to get better every day, and just kept winning.”
The Beavers finished the 2011 season with an overall record of 11-3, while going 7-1 in District 31-1A to capture the district title. The Beavers enjoyed a first-round bye in the playoffs and then won the area championship with a 45-32 victory over Johnson City.
