County Farm Bureau scholarship news
Seniors are reminded the deadline for the Wilson County Farm Bureau Scholarships is less than six weeks away.
The Wilson County Farm Bureau will again offer four $500 scholarship awards. Applicant’s parents or legal guardian must be current members of Wilson County Farm Bureau. Applicant must also be a confirmed senior in high school in order to qualify for the scholarship award. Applicant must attend a two- or four-year accredited college or vocational/technical school.
The deadline for this application is Tuesday, April 19. Information and applications for this award are not available online and can be obtained at the Wilson County Farm Bureau office in Floresville and La Vernia or by calling 830-393-2481.
“Youth are the future of agriculture,” said Wilson County Farm Bureau President Ervin Kotzur, “and Farm Bureau invests a substantial amount of time and money in youth leadership development.”
Free Enterprise Speech Contest
High school juniors and seniors attending this year’s Youth Leadership Conference in June are taking the first step to enter this contest.
The next step involves giving five local speeches on free enterprise, which makes the applicant eligible for the district contest.
Thirteen district winners will compete in the state contest at the 2011 Texas Farm Bureau Convention. The scholarship breakdown is as follows: winner, $4,000; runner-up, $2,500; four finalists, $1,500 each; and the remaining seven district winners, $1,000 each.
Four other Texas Farm Bureau scholarships are also available, with the deadline being Friday, March 18.
Full requirements for all scholarships may be found on the Texas Farm Bureau website at www.txfb.org or at the Wilson County Farm Bureau Office in Floresville or La Vernia.
