Immanuel Lutheran Church is now hiring for a Youth and Family Ministry Director. Pastoral: Minister to youth and their families during Sunday School and other church programs, being present in their lives outside the church walls, available for common concerns and in crisis situations. Leadership: Recruit and nurture Youth and Family Ministry program. Administration : Manage the planning process and coordinate with Pastor and Youth Committee all regular ministries to youth and their families. This includes youth of all ages on Sunday mornings and mid-week events; assisting with Confirmation, special events, trips and retreats, and parent meetings. Stewardship: Ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of youth programs, manage youth ministry budget, and collaborate with the sponsors of each Youth group. Ability to build, lead, and empower youth. Ability to implement a ministry vision. Familiarity with Lutheran Doctrine required; must be comfortable teaching it and representing Lutheran Theology. Proficient computer skills using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, database, email, internet, and social media. Supervisory experience preferred. Ability to adapt and evaluate curriculum preferred. Must have excellent organization, communication (verbal and written), and listening skills, with a high degree of initiative and accountability. Exceptional interpersonal and relational skills required, with sensitivity to church members and visitors. Understanding and enjoyment of youth and families and guiding their spiritual development. Thomas “Tommy” T. Garza, a lifelong resident of Floresville, Texas, entered into eternal rest on Thursday, March 3, 2011, at 4:08 p.m.

Tommy was born July 23, 1952, in Floresville to Rudy R. and Dora Treviño Garza. After graduating from Floresville High School, class of 1970, Tommy was an insurance sales agent for many years. Tommy married Lucinda “Lucy” Ximenez in 1976. Tommy loved deep-sea fishing, hunting, playing music, playing with his grandchildren, golfing, and playing the lottery.

Tommy was preceded in death by his sister-in-law, Mary Lou Ximenez Cupples.

Tommy is survived by his wife of more than 34 years, Lucy Ximenez; his sons, John Anthony Garza and Jason Garza; his grandsons, Brian and Ashton Garza; his parents; his brother, Vincent Garza and wife Susie; his sisters, Claudia Garza, Mary Jane Garza, and Suzie Martinez and husband Sal; and numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

A visitation was held on Sunday, March 6, at 4 p.m. in the Vinyard Funeral Home Chapel in Floresville with a rosary recited at 7 p.m.

A funeral Mass was celebrated on Monday at 10 a.m. in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Floresville with Father Phillip Henning officiating.

Interment followed in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Floresville.

Serving as pallbearers were Andy Morales, Charlie Johns, Louis Muñoz Jr., Sal Martinez, Danny Treviño, and Baldemar Treviño Jr.

The family requests memorials be made to the Sacred Heart Catholic Church, 1009 Trail St., Floresville, TX 78114.
