Immanuel Lutheran Church is now hiring for a Youth and Family Ministry Director. Pastoral: Minister to youth and their families during Sunday School and other church programs, being present in their lives outside the church walls, available for common concerns and in crisis situations. Leadership: Recruit and nurture Youth and Family Ministry program. Administration : Manage the planning process and coordinate with Pastor and Youth Committee all regular ministries to youth and their families. This includes youth of all ages on Sunday mornings and mid-week events; assisting with Confirmation, special events, trips and retreats, and parent meetings. Stewardship: Ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of youth programs, manage youth ministry budget, and collaborate with the sponsors of each Youth group. Ability to build, lead, and empower youth. Ability to implement a ministry vision. Familiarity with Lutheran Doctrine required; must be comfortable teaching it and representing Lutheran Theology. Proficient computer skills using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, database, email, internet, and social media. Supervisory experience preferred. Ability to adapt and evaluate curriculum preferred. Must have excellent organization, communication (verbal and written), and listening skills, with a high degree of initiative and accountability. Exceptional interpersonal and relational skills required, with sensitivity to church members and visitors. Understanding and enjoyment of youth and families and guiding their spiritual development. Marjorie J. Huff of Karnes City, Texas, passed away Monday, Feb. 28, 2011. She was born in Michigan City, Ind., to Howard L. and Alice L. Olsen Peterson.

She graduated from Michigan City High School, where she was an outstanding musician. Marjorie married Beecher Huff in Michigan City. She received her Bachelor of Science degree at Texas A&I University and received a Master of Science degree from East Texas State University.

Upon her husband’s graduation from the University of Texas, she and her family traveled to Mexico, where she taught in Torreon and Santa Barbara. A teacher whose career spanned 25 years, she also taught in Kingsville, Aransas Pass, Comfort, and Karnes City.

She and her husband traveled to all 48 contiguous states and then took cruises to Alaska and Hawaii, plus 14 additional cruises to points of interest all over the world.

At various times in her life, she held a private pilot license, and worked as a reporter, secretary, bookkeeper, and welder before becoming an educator. She was an active member of Delta Kappa Gamma, an honorary society for women educators, on the local, area, and state levels, the Texas Retired Teachers Association, the Karnes County Historical Society, Craft Club, and St. Paul’s Lutheran Church. She enjoyed playing bridge and traveling to San Antonio to attend plays, ballets, and operas.

Marjorie was preceded in death by her husband, Beecher, and her parents.

She is survived by daughter Dawn Elise Houy and husband Chris of Fort Davis; son Jeffery Alan Huff; two grandsons, Daniel Frederick Houy of College Station and Scout Christopher Houy and wife Gencie of Lubbock; two great-granddaughters, Hattie Ruth Houy and Elsie Addison Houy of Lubbock; one brother, Howard L. Peterson Jr. and wife Joyce of North Fort Myers, Fla.; and one sister-in-law, Dorothy Mae Huff of Abilene.

Visitation was held Thursday, March 3, at 4 p.m. in the Rhodes Funeral Home in Karnes City.

A funeral service was held Friday at 10 a.m. in St. Paul’s Lutheran Church in Karnes City.

Interment followed in the Karnes City Cemetery in Karnes City.

Memorials may be made to St. Paul’s Lutheran Church, 408 S. Davidson St., Karnes City, TX 78118-3539, or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
