Joe Louis Dupnick Jr. passed away peacefully on Saturday, Feb. 26, 2011, in San Antonio, Texas.

He was born in Panna Maria on June 29, 1934, to Brigida Brysch and Joseph Louis Dupnick Sr.

He was a devoted husband and dad, caring for his beloved wife and raising his children. Joe was a lifelong farmer and rancher who could make something out of nothing.

In 1960, he moved to San Antonio, and joined Carpenter Local No. 14, from which he retired in 2001 after 40 years. As a superintendent with Guido Bros. Construction Co., he ran many challenging projects. The most rewarding was the restoration of The Chapel of Our Lady of the Lake University.

He was an avid hunter, fisherman, and storyteller, and was a member of the Knights of Columbus St. Pius X branch.

One of his favorite sayings was “If the sun don’t come up tomorrow, at least we know we had a good time.”

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 41 years, Monette Fater Dupnick; his parents; a brother, Frank Dupnick; and a sister, Julia Dupnick Sekula.

Joe is survived by his children, Gary Dupnick and wife Carla of La Vernia, Brian Dupnick of Houston, and Leigh Dupnick of San Antonio; his grandchildren, Gary Jr., Travis, Kyle, and twins Austin and Tyler Dupnick, all of La Vernia; and his sister, Rosalie Opiela of San Antonio.

A visitation was held and a rosary was recited at 8 p.m. on Monday, Feb. 28, in the St. Pius X Catholic Church in San Antonio.

A Mass of Resurrection was celebrated Tuesday at 10 a.m. in the church.

Interment followed in the Panna Maria Cemetery in Panna Maria.

Pallbearers were Gary Dupnick Jr., Travis Dupnick, David Sekula, Rudy Mungia, Tom Guido, and Paul Woodward. Honorary pallbearers were Kyle Dupnick, Austin Dupnick, and Tyler Dupnick.
