Susie Herrera Castro
Susie Herrera Castro, a lifelong resident of Floresville, Texas, entered into eternal rest on Sunday, Feb. 27, 2011, at 6:55 p.m. in her daughter and son-in-law’s (Linda and Willie Mojica) residence in San Antonio, where she had resided the past three years, at the age of 79 years, 2 months, and 3 days.
Susie was born Dec. 24, 1931, in Floresville, to Jose and Theresa Ximenez Herrera. She graduated from Floresville High School and was a homemaker.
She married John Flores Castro on April 15, 1955, in Floresville. John, Susie’s beloved husband of more than 48 years, preceded her in death on Jan. 15, 2004.
Susie enjoyed watching the Spurs, talking with friends and family on the phone, and planning for the holidays.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; and her brother, Billie Herrera Sr.
Susie is survived by her children, Linda Mojica and husband Willie, Nancy Cantu and husband Leroy Cantu Sr., and Billy Castro and wife Annette; her grandchildren, Andy DeAnda and wife Janie, Leroy Cantu Jr., and wife Michelle, John Castro, and Kathryn Castro; her great-grandchildren, Jacob DeAnda, and Aiden, Brody, and Dominic Cantu; her brother, Bennie Herrera Sr. and wife Vangie; her sister, Elida Barrientez and husband Louis; and her sister-in-law, Josie Herrera.
A visitation was held on Tuesday, March 1, at 5 p.m. and a rosary was recited at 7 p.m. in the Vinyard Funeral Home Chapel in Floresville.
A funeral Mass was celebrated on Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Floresville with Father Phillip Henning officiating.
Interment followed in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Floresville.
Serving as pallbearers were Andy DeAnda, Willie Mojica, John Castro, Bobbie Herrera, Leroy Cantu Jr., and Bennie Herrera Jr.
