The Wilson County office of the Texas AgriLife Extension Service will conduct a field day and seminar in March.

The first, a mare and foal field day, has been scheduled for Wednesday, March 23, at 4 p.m. at the B-K Ranch in Floresville.

A representative from Retama Equine Hospital will be on hand to cover care of the mare before and after foaling, as well as care for the newborn foal.

B-K Ranch, operated by Ralph and Kathy Arnold, is an active thoroughbred racehorse breeding and racing operation in Wilson County.

B-K Ranch is located at 4619 F.M. 539 in Floresville. To get there from Floresville, head west on S.H. 97 for 3 miles, turn onto F.M. 539, and go 5 miles to the ranch.

Two general continuing education units will be offered. Registration fee for this program is $10.

Forage economics

A second Extension program will be held Wednesday, March 30, when Dr. Larry Falconer, Extension economist, and Dr. Dan Fromme, Extension agronomist, will discuss the economics of growing forage for grazing and haying, and the basics of growing forage property in South Texas.

The specialists will utilize new research of the Wilson/Karnes forage information to conduct the seminar. The seminar will be held in the Falls City Community Hall in Falls City at 7 p.m.

Two general continuing education units will be offered. Registration fee for this program is $10.

For more information regarding these events, call Dennis Hale, Texas AgriLife Extension Service agent for Wilson County, at 830-393-7357.
