Katey Aguirre cuts metal for the ag mechanics project she is preparing for the Nixon-Smiley show. The judging of ag mechanics will be held Friday, March 11, at 7:15 p.m. in the ag mechanics area.
The 2011 edition of the Nixon-Smiley Livestock Show is getting primed and ready, with the exhibitors anxious to show off their hard work in the arena.
The show and sale will be held Friday and Saturday, March 11-12, in the Nixon-Smiley Show Barn, located off U.S. 87 in Nixon.
Friday’s activities begin at 3 p.m. with the judging of crafts, followed by the judging of cakes. The awards presentation will be held at 7 p.m.
For those interested in ag mechanics, judging of the ag mechanics will begin at 7:15 p.m. in the ag mechanics area of the show barn.
Also at this time, the judging of broilers will begin in the arena, followed by the judging of turkeys and market rabbits.
The judging of livestock begins Saturday at 9 a.m. with the judging of the market hogs, followed by market lambs, goats, market steers, breeder hogs, and breeder goats.
After a brief intermission, the 4-H Clover “Pee-Wee” showmanship classes will take place.
Saturday evening begins with the buyers’ buffet at 5 p.m. The auction will begin at 6 p.m. with Joey Tomlinson. Sale catalogs will be available at the buffet.
The sale order this year is steers, hogs, lambs, goats, rabbits, turkeys, broilers, ag mechanics, crafts, and then cakes.
To ensure that each exhibitor is provided a fair and equitable price for their projects, donations are being accepted as part of the buyers’ pool. The buyers’ pool ensures that bids are kept at a steady price and assists in averaging out low numbers following the sale.
Anyone wishing to make a donation to the buyers’ pool may do so by calling Norman Coleman at 830-582-1286 or Donnie Janicek at 830-582-1581, or sending a contribution to Nixon-Smiley Livestock Show, P.O. Box 554, Nixon, TX 78140.
If you would like to place add-ons, call Janna Wheat at 830-857-0513.
