Nitro Jam returns to San Antonio
SAN ANTONIO -- From 2003 through 2008, San Antonio Raceway was a major player on the IHRA Nitro Jam scene.
Opening the year each of the six seasons Nitro Jam visited the speedy Texas track, San Antonio Raceway saw its share of history made as some of the best drivers to ever navigate the quarter-mile threw their hat in the ring for a couple of rounds with the beast known as San Antonio Raceway.
Now, after a three-year absence from the schedule, the International Hot Rod Association and its Nitro Jam series will finally be returning home for two days of over-the-top drag racing action at San Antonio Raceway as Nitro Jam brings a Texas-sized lineup to the track Friday and Saturday, April 1-2, for one of the biggest Nitro Jam events of the season.
This one-of-a-kind event will feature a monstrous show at the beautiful Texas facility, including a full nitro schedule consisting of five professional classes, a pair of jet-powered dragsters, the “Cool Bus” wheel standing school bus, and the most talked-about new addition to Nitro Jam in years -- the return of Grave Digger.
The legendary green and black monster truck with its menacing red headlights will make its Texas debut for the San Antonio Nitro Jam as it brings its 11-foot-tall, 12,000-pound frame to the Texas strip to take on the 30,000 horsepower Shockwave jet truck in a truly memorable battle of monster trucks.
In addition to the huge lineup of nitro racing and thrilling extras, the San Antonio Nitro Jam will also feature one of the largest sportsman races of the season as all seven IHRA classes return to competition vying for a spot in the year-end Summit Racing Tournament of Champions, joining the best local racers making up the E.T. class and a huge lineup of junior dragsters.
And headlining this huge event are an incredible five nitro-powered classes.
From 320-mph Top Fuel Dragsters to Prostalgia Nitro Funny Cars, Nitro Harleys, Fuel Altereds, and Pro Fuel Dragsters, the San Antonio Nitro Jam will feature a huge assortment of different race machines and classes sure to keep race fans thoroughly entertained throughout the two-night show.
Wrapping up the two-day nitro circus will be the innovative and entirely nitro-powered Pro Fuel Dragster division, the insane riders of the 220 mph Nitro Harley class, and the out-of-control Fuel Altered division.
All three classes bring something unique to the table, making for a thrilling lineup of nitro talent.
Ken Nelson and the unbelievable “Cool Bus” wheel standing school bus will bring the show to a close with an incredible pass down the quarter-mile on only its rear tires.
And of course, no Nitro Jam would be complete without the parties.
Before the show, fans can visit the pits and take part in numerous activities and meet your favorite Nitro Jam stars during FanFest and also witness the most amazing spectacle in motorsports today -- the Nitro Earthquake. To signal the start of FanFest, all four nitro classes will warm up at the same time, creating a sensory overload that will literally shake the earth.
Gates open both days at 8 a.m. with FanFest scheduled to begin at 5:30 p.m. and two rounds of Nitro Jam at 7 p.m.
