Tigers, Jaguars place at Jack Randall Relays

FLORESVILLE -- The Floresville Tigers and Jaguars made a good showing at the Jack Randall Relays held at Eschenburg Field here on March 5.
The Tigers placed fourth in the team standings as they scored 98 points. La Vernia edged New Braunfels Canyon by one point to win the varsity boys championship. The Bears tallied 151 points, while Canyon had 150 points and Boerne Champion was third with 144 points. The Lee Volunteers came in fifth behind the Tigers with 40 points.
In the varsity girls division, New Braunfels Canyon took first place with 191 points, followed by La Vernia with 120 points and Boerne Champion with 72 points. The Jaguars and San Antonio Incarnate Word tied for fourth place with 67 points.
Matthew Crockett had a strong showing at the meet as he placed first in both the high jump and the long jump. Crockett also had a second-place finish in the triple jump. Travis Svobada placed second in the 100-meter dash and fourth in the 200-meter dash. Trey Gillis finished third in the 200-meter dash, Nathaniel Mendoza placed fourth in the 300-meter hurdles, and Darren Orth placed fourth in the high jump to round out the individual events.
The Tigers won two relays as they took first place in both the 400 and 800 events. Running on the 400-meter relay were John Handowski, Svoboda, Abel Ingle, and Gillis, while Carlos Murphy, Ingle, Crockett, and Gillis ran on the 800-meter relay. The 1600-meter relay placed fifth with team members Crockett, Chris Drager, Handowski, and Ingle running.
Pacing the Jaguars at the meet was De Havalan Watts, who placed second in the triple jump and 400-meter and 800-meter runs. Watts also had a fifth-place finish in the long jump. Erica Hernandez finished second in the long jump and third in the 400-meter dash. Shelby Leinneweber placed fourth in the discus, Payton Cannon placed fifth in the triple jump, and Renata Gomez finished sixth in the 400-meter dash.
The 1600-meter relay team of Hernandez, Gomez, Micheala Pollaro, and Watts placed third, while the 800-meter relay team of Jennifer Mahula, Cannon, Hernandez, and Jessy Corpus had a fourth-place finish.
The junior varsity Tigers won the team championship in their division with 147 points, while La Vernia was second with 142 points. The junior varsity Jaguars placed fourth in the team standings with 68 points, while La Vernia took first-place honors with 139 points.
