George Francis Raabe entered into eternal life Sunday, March 6, 2011, at the age of 75. He was born Dec. 13, 1935.

George, a beloved father, will be remembered by his children for his wisdom, selfless giving, and devotion to his wife and family.

George graduated from Poth High School in 1954. After serving his country for two years in the U.S. Army, he married Eugenia Marie Foegelle on June 27, 1959, in the St. Boniface Catholic Church in Hobson. After moving to Corpus Christi in 1963, he raised his family as an active member of the Saints Cyril and Methodius Catholic Church and retired following a 30-year career with the Corpus Christi Army Depot.

George enjoyed gardening, hunting, fishing, camping with his family, “treasure hunting,” dancing, dominoes, and conversation. He was an honorable and respected man who will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved him.

He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 44 years, Eugenia Raabe; his parents, Otto William and Rose Winkler Raabe; his brothers, William “Floyd” Raabe and Kenneth Raabe; and his sister, Barbara Raabe.

George is survived by his children, Richard Raabe and wife Paige of Portland, Donna Raabe Fee of San Benito, Keith Raabe of Acworth, Ga., Gary Raabe and wife Susan of Shady Shores, Sondra Raabe Coronado of Killeen, Mark Raabe of Temple Terrace, Fla., and Matthew Raabe of Corpus Christi; his brothers, Howard Raabe and wife Frances of Three Oaks, and David Raabe and wife Theresa of Three Oaks; his sister, Irene Hons and husband Anthony of McQueeney; his sisters-in-law, Evelyn Raabe and Anita Raabe; 15 grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A visitation was held on Thursday, March 10, at 5 p.m. and a rosary was recited at 7 p.m. in the Vinyard Funeral Home Chapel in Poth, Texas.

A funeral Mass was celebrated on Friday at 10:30 a.m. in the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Poth with Father Grzegorz Szewczyk officiating.

Interment followed in the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Cemetery in Poth.

Serving as pallbearers were Eric Barnett, Juan Coronado, Paul Barnett, Mike Mendoza, Rene Rodriguez, and Tim Casarez.
