Despite the official line from hhs.gov that “The Affordable Care Act is designed to provide Americans with affordable, high-quality coverage options, while ensuring that those who like their current coverage can keep it,” it does not seem to be happening.
Last week the state of Maine was granted a waiver from ObamaCare.
“What Does It Take To Get An ObamaCare Waiver,” asks David Whelan on his blog http://blogs.forbes.com/davidwhelan in October.
“Just ask,” he writes.
At that time, McDonald’s was fighting the new ObamaCare laws, and shortly after that, the Obama administration granted waivers, not only to McDonald’s, but also to dozens of other firms and labor unions.
Then the demands for an ObamaCare waiver began to multiply, with waiver after waiver being granted. By November, Michelle Malkin writes that “more than 1 million Americans have escaped the clutches” of the new federal health-care law. People began to question, if it was really such a good thing, why do all these people want to opt out?
By January, hundreds of waivers had been granted, including waivers to four states.
Where does that leave the rest of us gullible taxpayers? Well, if you are a union, you stand a good chance. If you are a “blue state” or a state that they want to make blue, you might get one. In a red state such as Texas, forget a waiver. This administration has been all but openly hostile toward our state and our Republican governor. So, while waivers are issued on a “case by case” basis, we can guess what the guidelines might be. |
