Beavers compete in Poth
POTH -- The Falls City Beaver track and field team traveled to Poth recently to compete in the Pirate Relays. Falls City’s varsity team finished sixth, while the junior varsity team went home in fourth.
During varsity field competition, the Beavers claimed the top two spots in the shot put, as Brady Zunker grabbed gold, and William Pruski won the silver medal.
On the track, the Beavers earned points from Matt Wiatrek and Dylan Cheatham in the 300-meter hurdles event, as the two finished fourth and sixth, respectively.
From there, the Beavers had to rely on their points earned in the relay events. Luke Mynier, Matt Wiatrek, Jon Swierc, and Justin Elkins combined for a fourth-place finish in the 4x100-meter race; Mynier, Ryan Wiatrek, Clayton Glover, and Elkins finished fifth in the 4x200-meter relay; and Matt Wiatrek, Phillip Lyssy, Tyler Wiatrek, and Swierc finished fifth in the 4x400-meter event.
In junior varsity competition, the Beavers received several strong finishes to end the meet in fourth place.
Tyler Malcolm earned a silver medal in the pole vault, Dean Gaskamp won bronze in the high jump, and David Brodsky earned a bronze in the discus to help lead the Beavers through field events. Kendall Kanak earned points for Falls City with his fourth-place finish in the triple jump, and Austin Camber did the same by finishing sixth in the pole vault.
In distance running, Dylan Urbanczyk finished fourth in the 800-meter run, Matt Hons was fifth in the 1,600-meter run, and Hons and Eric Wiatrek finished fourth and fifth, respectively, in the 3,200-meter event.
Royce Leonhardt earned a silver medal in the 110-meter hurdles for Falls City, and Gaskamp picked up a bronze in the same event. Leonhardt went on to win gold in the 300-meter hurdles, and Gaskamp won another bronze medal with his third-place performance.
Malcolm, Urbanczyk, Stephen Poole, and Brodsky finished third in the 4x200-meter relay race, and some additional team points were earned in the 4x400-meter relay thanks to the legs of Kanak, Tyler Moore, Camber, and Gaskamp.
