LA VERNIA -- Every year the National Education Association sponsors a nationwide initiative called “Read Across America” to stress the importance of reading. This event coincides with the birthday of Dr. Seuss on March 2.

La Vernia Primary School students celebrated his birthday from Monday, March 7 through Friday, March 11. Our morning announcements included a Dr. Seuss fact, a quote for the day by Dr. Seuss, and a trivia question. Teachers also developed many activities utilizing books by Dr. Seuss.

The community was even involved in the celebration. Employees from area businesses, parents, and district employees came to the school throughout the week to read Dr. Seuss stories to students. It means so much to students when adults share the wonder of reading.

Mrs. Boos, Mrs. Farris, Mrs. Wengler, the faculty and students would like to thank the following people for taking time out of their busy day to read: Pascalle Bippert, Mary Kay Cosmetics; Kelcee Blandford, La Vernia News and Wilson County News; Al Boos, H-E-B; Lucille Burns, Rose Properties; Carol Eastin, Learning Enhancement Center; Dr. Chester Eastin, Dental Depot; Marie Gerlich, La Vernia City Council; Jennifer Moczygemba, Catholic Life Insurance; Shay Parker, Little Bear Love & Care Child Care Center; Tesi Pugh, LV Angels; Cheryl Ramsey, Wilson County Meat Market, Wilson County Wild Game Processing and Rah Rah’s Cheerleading; Harold Schott, La Vernia Mayor; Nannette Kilbey-Smith, Wilson County News; and Officer Janet Thelen, La Vernia Police Department. La Vernia ISD employees; Allen Bordelon, Shannon Burns, Karen Campbell, Stacy Clark, Dr. Diane Fisher, Julie LeStourgeon, Cathey Lucas, Candence Myrick, Mary Ohland, Coach Bo Robinson, Craig Schraub, John Smetzer, and Lisa Smith.
