LA VERNIA -- Every year the National Education Association sponsors a nationwide initiative called “Read Across America” to stress the importance of reading. This event coincides with the birthday of Dr. Seuss on March 2.

La Vernia Primary School students celebrated his birthday from Monday, March 7 through Friday, March 11. Our morning announcements included a Dr. Seuss fact, a quote for the day by Dr. Seuss, and a trivia question. Teachers also developed many activities utilizing books by Dr. Seuss.

The community was even involved in the celebration. Employees from area businesses, parents, and district employees came to the school throughout the week to read Dr. Seuss stories to students. It means so much to students when adults share the wonder of reading.
