Karly Streety, a Cuero High School junior, recently returned from a trip to Washington, D.C., where she attended the National Youth Leadership Forum on National Security.

Streety participated in simulated national security discussions and learned about careers in the State Department and U.S. military organizations such as the Air Force.

Streety’s trip was made possible thanks to one of her teachers who felt she would be a good candidate for the opportunity. She was nominated by her high school teacher, Mr. Murtaugh. She also attended the forum on medicine last summer.

Karly is the daughter of Philip and Jackie Streety and the granddaughter of Wilfred Block of Cuero and Julia Scarborough of Smiley.
