EC students place in San Antonio show
SAN ANTONIO -- The East Central FFA began and ended the San Antonio Livestock Show with a bang.
In the poultry show, Kolton Dieckow’s market turkey hen was named grand champion. Since Kolton won a San Antonio scholarship several years ago, this allowed another East Central FFA member to gain $8,000.
Other East Central exhibitors in the market turkey hen show included Callie Rainosek, third; Jared Maron, sixth; Koy Dieckow, 16th; Victoria Birdsong, 17th; Garrett Mihalski, 29th; and Kristen Sendemer, 32nd.
In the turkey tom division, Ty Birdsong’s turkey won fourth place and Aaron Maron’s entry, 14th.
East Central FFA broiler exhibitors did an outstanding job in the poultry show, with Jared Pieniazek and Shelbie Thames placing 14th and 15th, respectively. Shelbie also placed second in the Poultry Biathlon contest.
The first week of the San Antonio Livestock Show also brought forth breeding cattle. Heather Kosub placed third with Sage and Lexie Ricks placed fourth with Lexus. Both of these Limousin heifers are from the Brems’ herd. Heather Kosub placed eighth with Mag’s Wild Chimes.
Jessica Berry’s Charolais heifer, ACR Miss Shurly Tradition 9155, was fifth. Wyatt Blaylock placed fourth with his Polled Hereford heifer, MC CM LIBERTY 015W.
Also during the first week of the show, Amy Beth Moran placed fourth with her July breeding goat, third with her March breeding goat, and fifth with her February entry.
In the Yorkshire breeding gilts competition, Kaitlyn Kempen placed third in the class 23 division, and Ty Baird placed second in class 24.
In the class 19 group, Kaitlyn Kempen and Ty Baird both placed seventh with their breeding Yorkshire gilts and Dustin Holloway, 10th.
In the breeding Spotted Poland China swine division, Amber Kerns placed eighth with her class 56 gilt.
In the Duroc division, Johnna Pieniazek garnered seventh place with her class 38 gilt.
In the Chester White division, Koy Dieckow was third with his class 7 gilt, and Trent Stolowski, fourth with his class 10 gilt.
During the Swine Skill-A-Thon competition, Kaitlyn Kempen captured the champion junior buckle and Kylie Patterson earned the champion intermediate buckle.
During the second week of the San Antonio show, the East Central FFA brought home more honors.
In the swine barn, Jacob Allen placed third with his Berkshire barrow entry. Tendall Talley and Kyle Wildman exhibited the first- and second-place Duroc barrows, respectively. Each of these students earned a spot in the auction of champions.
In the steer barn, Kylie Patterson placed second and Kaitlyn Kempen placed third with their Brahman steer entries, and Jordan Hevner exhibited the third-place Brangus steer, entitling all of these market steer exhibitors to sell in the auction of champions.
During the first San Antonio Livestock Show Beef Skill-A-Thon, Kylie Patterson placed second in the intermediate division.
In the ag mechanics division, Taylor Luensmann’s entrance gate earned third place, with all other student projects earning either a blue or red ribbon. Students earning a blue ribbon included Michael Moczygemba, Kyle Brown, Dixie Blackstock, Taylor Luensmann, and Colton Zizelman. Dalton Schroder earned a red ribbon with his project.
In the meats judging contest, the team of Jordan Hevner, Shelbie Knox, Michael Moczygemba, and Christi Schick placed fourth.
In the poultry evaluation contest, the team of Kyle Brown, Bethany Michalec, Evan Pieniazek, and Jared Pieniazek earned fifth place.
The livestock team of Frank Aniol, Ty Baird, Holden Black, and Kaylee Reed placed 17th in the livestock-judging contest. Frank was the high-point individual, earning a $10,000 scholarship.
