Ranching school set for SA
The Texas and Southwestern Cattle Raisers Association’s (TSCRA) 17th annual School for Successful Ranching will be held Thursday through Saturday, March 31-April 2 during the TSCRA convention weekend in San Antonio.
On Thursday, school participants will attend a special series of classes and live demonstrations. Day two of the cattle raiser’s School for Successful Ranching offers 10 classes covering a variety of issues including ranch security, ranching employment, animal health regulations, business and marketing techniques, and wildlife management.
Also during the convention, an in-depth discussion on preserving antibiotics for disease prevention and medical treatment in cattle herds will take place during a breakout session.
The session comes in light of recent federal legislation proposed in Washington that would severely reduce the ability for livestock producers and veterinarians to prevent and control diseases in livestock.
Dr. Dee Griffin, professor with the University of Nebraska in the Veterinary and Biomedical Science Department, will speak about the current attack on using antibiotics in cattle herds and the science supporting their continued use in food animals during the session.
“Defending Antibiotics in Cattle Management” is just one of nine breakout sessions scheduled to take place during the convention.
A complete schedule of events, information on accommodations, and registration information can be found at www.tscra.org/convention.
