Kyle Busch took the checkered flag on Sunday to win the Jeff Byrd 500 NASCAR Sprint Cup Series race at Bristol Motor Speedway, his second win of the weekend at the track and his fifth-straight NASCAR national-level win at BMS.

"It (winning) was a lot harder today," Busch said. "Carl (Edwards) kept me honest."

After claiming the pole during Friday's qualifying session, Edwards fell back early on, only to come back and battle Busch at the end and wind up with a second-place finish.

According to Edwards, he "didn't look so good in the middle of the race."

Busch took the lead for the final time during a caution on lap 428 of the 500-lap race when he opted to take only two fresh tires while the other front-runners took four. As a result, Busch restarted with the lead, and held on to the top spot the rest of the way. Edwards was in the second spot to battle Busch by the time the next caution came out just a few laps later on lap 434.

Edwards did get a nose in front of Busch with 28 laps to go, but he wasn't able to complete the pass.

"I thought I could get to him at the end and rough him up a little bit and maybe get by him, but his car took off," Edwards said.

As Busch pulled away in the closing laps, Edwards fell into the clutches of third-place runner, Jimmie Johnson. Edwards was able to hold off Johnson, though, as Johnson had to settle for a third-place finish.

Matt Kenseth finished fourth.

Menard led 35 laps early and stuck around the top-10 throughout the race before ending up with a fifth-place finish. Martin Truex also led several laps early, leading 63 laps before fading back and eventually dropping out of the top-10 and off the lead lap. He ended up finishing 17th.

Kurt Busch was also among the lap leaders early one and wound up with a seventh-place finish to leave Bristol as the points leader. After finishing second, Edwards move into the second spot in the points standings, a single point behind Busch.
