SAN MARCOS -- The La Vernia High School junior varsity tennis team recently competed in a tournament in San Marcos, which was scheduled to be the team’s last regular-season event of the year.

In doubles competition, Joey Bonavente and Darius DuBose reached the second round of consolation, Megan Amerson and Destiny Roath reached the second round main draw, Chris DeLeon and Blanca Alvarado made it to the consolation quarterfinals, and Brandon Davis and Amanda Kirk reached the second round of consolation.

Luis Roque reached the consolation semifinals in boys singles, Toby Klein played into the second round of consolation, and Anfernee Arazoza was the consolation champ. Catherine Miller and Desirea Tenpenny each reached the consolation quarterfinals in girls singles play.

Before spring break, the varsity and junior varsity teams from La Vernia competed in the Schertz/Cibolo/Judson/Steele Tournament.

During the tournament held March 10, Eric Mercado reached the main draw quarterfinals, Roque played into the consolation quarterfinals, and Klein reached the consolation semifinals.

Amerson and Roath reached the consolation semifinals in doubles play, and Kirk and Tenpenny advanced to the consolation quarterfinals. Davis and DuBose reached the consolation quarterfinals in boys doubles, and DeLeon and Bonavente played into the main draw quarterfinals. Alvarado and Miller each reached the consolation quarterfinals.

In varsity competition, Hunter Johnson reached the main quarterfinals, Michael Wang played into the second round of the main draw, and Nick Guitron reached the consolation semifinals.

Levi Andrews and Adam Poore reached the main draw quarterfinals in doubles play, Preslie Pavlich and Alex Leytham advanced to the second round of consolation, and Ali Beck and Julie Barnes played into the consolation quarterfinals. Sarah Ellis reached the second round of the main draw, and Shelby Brantley played into the main draw quarterfinals.
