Scholarship deadline is May 1
Four scholarships of $500 each are being offered through an essay contest for students of any faith or ethnicity in grades 11-12.
Sponsored by the Father Leopold Moczygemba Foundation, the Silesian-Polish Texans Essay Contest topic is “Portrayal of a Silesian-Polish Texan.” Silesia is a region in Europe now in Poland. Eligible participants should follow the guidelines and submit their entry before the deadline on Sunday, May 1.
The guidelines are: focus on one person of Silesian-Polish descent who lived in Texas in the 1800s or 1900s; compose an interesting original paper about this person; include biographical information, personality traits, career, and milestones; note any activities connected to ethnicity, i.e., memberships in parish or organizations; reflect any Polish traditions, language, or sayings of the person if possible; consider the person’s challenges and contributions; type between 400-600 words double spaced; list a minimum or four sources with at least one non-Internet source; interview a senior Silesian Texan for additional details about your subject and include name and date of interview in your subject and include name and date of interview in your citations; use proper English, grammar, punctuation, and spelling.
On a separate page, the student should include his or her complete name, address, e-mail, phone numbers, and name of school. It is important that personal identification is not written on the essay pages.
