Dennis Anthony “Skeeter“ Krawietz, 78, of Midland, Texas, passed away on Thursday, Feb. 10, 2011. He was born on Oct. 23, 1932, in Falls City to Dionysious “Dee” and Pauline Kowalik Krawietz.

He graduated from Falls City High School in 1949, from St. Mary’s University in San Antonio in pre-engineering, and from the University of Houston with a Bachelor of Science in petroleum engineering in 1954.

He married Joan Brame of Houston on June 26, 1954, in Houston.

Dennis served in the U.S. Army from 1955-57 and was assigned to the U.S. Army RMD labs in Fort Belvoir, Va., as a project engineer. He built and ran performance tests on a full-scale high-speed jet aircraft refueling system.

Dennis worked as a petroleum engineer for Schlumberger in Texas, Louisiana, and Arkansas, and also worked for Dow Chemical Co. in Chanute, Kan., and Bay City. He moved to Midland in 1973 and worked as a drilling/production engineer for Sohio Petroleum (later BP). He became district manager for Saba Energy and held various consulting positions prior to his retirement.

He was a longtime member of St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Midland.

Dennis was a cancer survivor for the past 12 years. He died of complications from pneumonia. He was intelligent, humorous, generous, and kind.

He was preceded in death by his parents; his son, John Patrick; and his sister, Patricia Krawietz.

Dennis is survived by his sister, Carol Swize and husband C. J. of Pattison; his sons, Dennis Krawietz Jr. and wife Jean of Sherman, Kenneth Krawietz of Midland, Thomas Krawietz and wife Sherry of Katy, and Paul Krawietz of Dallas; his daughters, Kathryn Widner and husband Steve of Marble Falls, Patricia Hoover and husband Doug of Colorado Springs, Colo., and Carolyn Freeman and husband Russell of Fairview; and 12 grandchildren.

A funeral service was held on Tuesday, Feb. 15, in St. Ann’s Catholic Church in Midland.
