1902-2011

Rosa Bednarz Reinhard, a lifelong resident of Poth, Texas, entered into eternal rest Wednesday, April 6, 2011, at 12:24 a.m. in the Regency Manor nursing home in Floresville at the age of 108 years, 9 months, and 7 days. Rosa was born June 30, 1902, in Wilson County to John and Francisca Wick Bednarz.

Rosa married Arthur Henry Reinhard on June 11, 1923, in the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Poth. Arthur, Rosa’s beloved husband of 50 years, preceded her in death on April 8, 1973.

Rosa was a lifelong member of the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church, where she was the altar server for many years. Rosa enjoyed sewing and quilting, as well as her membership in the Catholic Daughters and Hermann Sons.

Rosa was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her sons-in-law, Hugh Barrow and Lou Repka; her daughter-in-law, Mary Reinhard; her sisters, Olga Flieller, Clara Flieller, and Selma Treybig; and her brother, Alfred Flieller.

She is survived by her children, Lawrence Reinhard, Catherine Repka, Lucille Barrow, Wilford Reinhard and wife Mercedes, and David Reinhard and wife Sharon; her sister, Hulda Ploch; 16 grandchildren; 28 great-grandchildren; and 5 great-great-grandchildren.

A visitation was held on Thursday, April 7, at 5 p.m. and a rosary was recited at 7 p.m. in the Vinyard Funeral Home Chapel in Poth.

A funeral Mass was celebrated on Friday at 10:30 a.m. in the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Poth with Father Grzegorz Szewczyk officiating.

Interment followed in the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Cemetery in Poth.

Serving as pallbearers were Mike Reinhard, Scott Reinhard, Zane Reinhard, Harold Barrow, Tom Repka, and Kenneth Repka.

Serving as honorary pallbearers were Ronald Barrow, Victor Flieller, Clifton Flieller, and Alfred Bednarz.

The family requests memorials be made to a charity of the donor’s choice.

Farewell to centenarian

By Nannette Kilbey-Smith

Wilson County News

Rosa Bednarz Reinhard of Poth, who passed away April 6, made front-page news in 2007, when she celebrated her 105th birthday.

Rosa celebrated 108 years last June with family and friends, in the nursing home where she resided. The Wilson County News and a San Antonio TV crew recorded the event, during which Rosa engaged in witty exchanges with her guests. She enjoyed a quiet moment with a great-granddaughter, 8-year-old Autumn, who was a century younger than her great-grandmother.

Rosa was among the centenarians recognized in February 2010, as Wilson County marked its 150th birthday.
