Floresville seniors invited to apply for $500 scholarship

The Floresville Musical Club invites applications for its scholarship program. The club will award one $500 scholarship to a graduating senior in the Floresville Independent School District, either attending Floresville High School or through a home-school program. The deadline to apply is Sunday, April 24.

The scholarship will be awarded based on the following criteria: Students must have an average of A/B or above; submit two recommendations from a teacher or a counselor; major in Creative Arts, including but not limited to drama, music, painting, fine arts, writing, or journalism; submit a short biography of themselves; and submit a written essay of at least 300 and not more than 500 words using the following topic: “It is said, ‘Music speaks to the Heart.’ With the recent news about budget cuts, the Arts is one of the main programs that is affected. If you had a chance to speak to Congress about reinstating funding in public schools to have a music program in your school, what would you say to encourage them to pass the law?”

Applications can be obtained at the Floresville High School office or by calling Sandra Detamore at 830-216-7222.
