FLORESVILLE -- The Floresville Tiger varsity baseball team hosted the Victoria West Warriors last Friday evening, and came away with a 4-1 victory. With the win, the Tigers ended the first round of district play with a record of three wins and two losses, which has them in a three-way tie for second place.

The Tigers got a quick start in the contest as they scored twice in both the first and second innings. In the bottom of the first inning, Garrett Pollok received a walk before Micah Clements hit a double to have runners on second and third base. Robert Silva had an infield single to score Pollok and Roy Silva followed with a double to bring in Micah Clements and another RBI.

In the bottom of the second inning, Isaiah Guerrero hit a double before he stole third base. Jonathan Parker came up to bat and had a single to score Guerrero for an RBI. Parker stole second base and Pollok brought him in to score on an RBI single.

The four runs were enough for the Tiger victory as they received a good pitching effort from Drew Clements and Guerrero. Drew Clements pitched the first five innings, allowing only one run and four hits, to get the win. Guerrero came in to pitch the final two innings and recorded the save as he allowed only one hit and struck out three batters.

Leading the Tiger batters in the contest were Guerrero, who was 2 for 3 with a double; and Pollok, 2 for 3; while Micah Clements and Roy Silva were each 1 for 2 and each hit a double. Defensively, Pollok and Drew Clements each came up with a good game.

On Tuesday evening, the Tigers traveled to Gregory-Portland and fell to the Wildcats 7-4. Leading the Tigers in the contest were Roy Silva, who was 3 for 4 with a double; and Robert Silva, who was also 3 for 4 and scored two runs. Robert Silva and Pollok each hit a solo home run in the fifth inning. Pollok pitched the first 4-2/3 innings, while Matthew Roe pitched the final 1-1/3 inning.

This Friday evening, the Tigers will travel to Victoria to face the district-leading East Titans. The next home game will be on Tuesday, April 20, when the Tigers will host the Port Lavaca Sandcrabs.
