Second fugitive arrest related to El Paso this week

Turns out crime does pay--to the anonymous tipster who turned in one of the 10 Most Wanted fugitives in Texas, who was arrested this morning in El Paso.

The Criminal Justice Division of the Governor’s Office will pay $5,000 cash to the tipster through the Texas Crime Stoppers program for the arrest of George Felix DeLeon, 41. He was arrested by the U.S. Marshals Service Lone Star Fugitive Task Force and DPS Criminal Investigations agents at a southeast El Paso residence early this morning. He was taken into custody after resisting arrest.

Wanted since 2006 for a parole violation, DeLeon’s violent criminal history includes voluntary manslaughter for fatally shooting a man in the face; aggravated assault for running over a man twice with a vehicle; and arson. All Top 10 fugitives are considered armed and dangerous.

You can see DeLeon’s wanted poster at: http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/wanted/topTenFugitives.htm#;view=Details/fugitive=10 <http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/wanted/topTenFugitives.htm>

DeLeon is the second Top 10 arrest related to El Paso this week. A Top 10 Sex Offender from El Paso was arrested Wednesday in Kansas. (See press release: http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/director_staff/public_information/pr041411a.pdf <http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/director_staff/public_information/pr041411a.pdf> )

The 10 Most Wanted Fugitives are featured on the DPS website at http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/wanted/ <http://www.txdps.state.tx.us/wanted/> and have last known addresses in the following cities:

· San Elizario (El Paso County)

· Houston

· Spring

· Pasadena

· Austin

· San Antonio

· Corpus Christi

· Edinburg

· Weslaco

Texas Crime Stoppers offers cash rewards from $5,000 to $10,000 to any person who provides information that leads to the arrest of one of the current 10 Most Wanted Fugitives. Anyone with information can provide anonymous tips in three different ways:

· Call the Crime Stoppers hotline at 1-800-252-TIPS (8477).

· Text the letters DPS--followed by your tip--to 274637 (CRIMES) from your cell phone.

· Submit a tip through the DPS website by selecting the fugitive you have information about, and then clicking on the link under their picture to submit a web tip.

DPS investigators work with local law enforcement agencies to select fugitives for the Texas Top 10 Most Wanted list. Featured fugitives often have gang affiliations and generally have been accused of committing violent crimes or crimes against children. Investigators are interested in apprehending these fugitives as soon as possible, before they are able to commit additional crimes.
