Golf tourney set for April 23

Registration to play in a charitable golf tournament on Saturday, April 23, has been extended through Thursday, April 21.

Proceeds of the tournament, to be held at the River Bend Golf Course at Floresville, will benefit the family of Oceana, a 6-year-old fighting leukemia who receives treatment at Christus Santa Rosa Children’s Hospital in San Antonio, according to organizer Ashlie Dix.

Dix is a 2009 graduate of La Vernia High School. She has organized the tournament as a project for her sociology course at Palo Alto College, where she is a sophomore pursuing a bachelor’s degree in biology. Several sponsors are helping her with the tournament.

Registration is $60 per player and includes golf cart and range balls. Lunch will be provided. Trophies will be awarded for first, second, and third places. The event will also include a silent auction, which is open to the public.
