Poth students compete at district meet
The Poth High School UIL team advanced 14 of its members to regional competition April 16 after success in the district meet in Three Rivers April 1-2.

Poth High School’s UIL academic team competed at the district meet April 1-2 in Three Rivers. Fourteen students advanced to the regional competition, held at Texas State University April 16.

Spelling team members Jessica Dziuk, second place; Kaylee Lyssy, fifth place; Heather Meyer, and Claudia Gutierrez placed first as a team and advanced to regionals.

The number sense team also placed first, including Seth Dunn, second place; Robert Broyles, third place; Kaylee Lyssy, fourth place; and Kelli Kolodziej. The team advanced to regionals.

The calculator applications team placed second and advanced as a wildcard. The team included Kayleigh Wauters, fourth place; Kelsee Felux, sixth place; Morgan Koenig, and Emily Flieller.

The literary criticism team also placed second with Claire Raabe, third place; Kenya Barrientos, and Whitney Lynch.

The second-place social studies team included Kenya Barrientos, first place; Audrey Raabe, fourth place; Anesha Guevara, and Daniella Noguez.

Individual qualifiers were Clay Rotter, first place in headline writing and third place in current events; Spencer Flieller, third place, editorial writing; and Claire Raabe, third place, ready writing.

Regional alternates were Heather Meyer, ready writing; Aaron Friesenhahn, computer applications; and Travis Cruger, accounting.

Other students who placed at the district meet were Seth Dunn, sixth place, mathematics; Josh Churning, sixth place, news writing; Cody Soto, fifth place, poetry interpretation; and Tara Dunn, informative speaking.
