Floresville Musical Club meets for ‘An Afternoon Tea’
Members of the Floresville Musical Club met in the First Lutheran Church in Floresville on April 12.
President Sarah Gella called the meeting to order and asked for birthdays, anniversaries, and welcomed the many guests present. The theme for the meeting was “An Afternoon Tea” and the hostesses and their helpers served the members. Linda Pipes read her nominating committee report. The nominations for the coming year will consist of the same officers as last year. Gella thanked the ladies for continuing and reminded everyone to vote in May for the slate of officers. Gella reminded the members that a one-time scholarship will be presented at the April 29 assembly at Floresville High School. She also urged members to turn applications in to her for the regular scholarship that also will be presented April 29. Carol Richardson read the treasurer’s report.
Glynda Merritt gave the Peanut Festival report and asked if there were any young ladies interested in representing the Musical Club. Lydia Martinez said her granddaughter might be interested. A motion was made and seconded to ask Katelyn Martinez if she would like to represent the Musical Club. Motion passed. Lydia then called Katelyn and she said she would be honored to represent us. Katelyn is the daughter of Al and Cheryl Martinez of Floresville. Merritt reminded the club that Tammy Raabe will host the dinner.
Gella then introduced head hostess Viola Henke who in turn introduced her group of hostesses: Joan Hartmann, Linda Blair, Janice Pruitt, Patsy Cotton, Chrystal Eckel, Marilyn Zolkoski, Gertrude Eckel, Dorothy Johnson, Florence Baumann, Elsie Walpole, Shirley Lyssy, Dorothy Paris, and Tammy Raabe. In addition, Viola had several young ladies help with the serving.
Peggy Tipton then introduced the musical entertainment for the evening. Katy Smith, flute, and Katilyn Eberhardt, French horn, played a medley of duet pieces. Kate Ragan sang four songs from different Broadway musicals.
The table decorations were done in the Easter theme with teapots on mirrors with small Easter decorations on each table. The tablecloths were cream with blue covering. The sign-in table was done in green with a lace tablecloth and flowers and Easter decorations. Henke collected some dishes from Reggie’s Antiques to help set the theme. Each table was set with a place setting using mixed and matched china. The servers wore aprons made by Viola Henke. The members were entertained during tea by singers Anais Avilez, Pascalle Bippert, and Domonick Marafioto, who performed show tunes and others.
Refreshments were chicken salad on lettuce leaves, crackers, and fruit on skewers, with a choice of iced peach tea or a variety of tea bags for hot tea. A fruit mousse was also served.
The ladies were asked to carpool to the May meeting, a parade of homes.
