Mathilda “Tillie” Mary Schwab Krueger, 89, a resident of Fashing, Texas, went home to be with our Lord on Saturday, April 9, 2011, in Kenedy. Mathilda was born Dec. 28, 1921, to Edmund and Sophie Syring Schwab in Campbellton. Mathilda married Alfred William Krueger Sr. on Sept. 3, 1940, in the St. Elizabeth Catholic Church in Fashing. They raised their nine children and farmed for 70 years in Fashing. Mathilda was a homemaker and worked with her husband on the farm. She volunteered her time and talent to the Fashing 4-H Club, supporting her children with their many projects. She was also active in school and community projects.

Mathilda was a lifelong member of the St. Elizabeth Catholic Church and Altar Society and the St. Cornelius Rosary Circle. She was preceded in death by her husband of 61 years; her parents; three sisters; and two brothers.

Mathilda is survived by one brother and six sisters; her five daughters, Katherine Doreck and husband Wesley of Choate, Alice Kalinoski and husband Thomas, Rose Sczech of San Antonio, Helen Stavinoha and husband Wilbert of Floresville, and Cynthia Wishert and husband Matthew of Magnolia; her four sons, Alfred Krueger Jr. and wife Susan of Coy City, James Krueger of Runge, Leroy Krueger and wife Kathleen of Jourdanton, and John Krueger and wife Sharon of Fashing; 25 grandchildren; 27 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank the nursing staff at Bluebonnet Nursing and Rehab and Otto Kaiser Hospital for all their great care and compassion.

A visitation was held on Sunday, April 17, from 5:30-9 p.m. with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. in the Rhodes Funeral Home Chapel in Karnes City.

A Mass of Christian Burial was celebrated on Monday at 10 a.m. in the St. Cornelius Catholic Church in Karnes City.

Interment followed in the Fashing Cemetery in Fashing.
