Frankie Ruth Skelton Freasier
Frankie Ruth Freasier, a longtime resident of San Antonio, Texas, passed away on Friday, April 8, 2011, in the Regency Manor nursing home in Floresville at the age of 89 years, 10 months, and 9 days.
Frankie was born May 30, 1921, in Lorrene, Ore. She was the youngest of three children born to John C. and Mattie Herenedeen Skelton. She graduated from high school in Lorrene and after graduation, she worked in the office of her father’s lumber and logging business in Oregon.
Frankie then went on to meet her future husband, B.L. “Red” Freasier in Oregon while he was serving in the U.S. Army. She followed him to Texas and after he was discharged, Red and Frankie were united in marriage on May 30, 1946, in Pandora. Together they called Stockdale home. Her parents later moved there and both families built homes with lumber that was shipped in from the mill in Oregon. Red preceded Frankie in death in November 1970.
Frankie became a nurse’s aide with the San Antonio State Hospital. She retired after 23 years of faithful service. Frankie was a member of the Rebecca Lodge in both Texas and in Oregon, and a 20-year member of the TOPS Club and the KOPS Club, which helped her with her weight battle. They helped her lose 45 pounds and keep it off for 18 years. Frankie was very proud of this.
Frankie was always very supportive of her children and worked to help them in many ways. She enjoyed her grandchildren and great-grandchildren very much.
Frankie was preceded in death by her parents, John and Mattie Skelton; her brother, Harry Skelton; and her sister, Marjorie Howard.
She is survived by her children, Marjorie and Leo Broom of Floresville and John B. and Raelene Freasier of San Saba; her grandchildren, Thomas Scott Freasier of San Saba, Ryan Davis Freasier of Lincoln, Neb., and Courtney Marie Broom of San Antonio; and her great-grandchildren, Brittany Freasier, Dillion Freasier, and Chelsi Freasier, all of Albany, Texas.
A visitation began at 10 a.m., and a memorial service was held at 11 a.m. on Saturday, April 16, in the Vinyard Funeral Home Chapel in Floresville with Gail Uhlig officiating.
Memorials may be made to the American Cancer Society, P.O. Box 291048, San Antonio, TX 78229-1648; or to the charity of the donor’s choice.
