On Saturday, April 9, 2011, Arthur Neal Lenz passed away surrounded by family and friends. He was 57 years old and just days short of his birthday on Monday.

Arthur was born April 11, 1953, in Abilene, Texas, at which time his father, Arthur “Art” A. Lenz Jr. was a concrete superintendent for Zachry Construction, and his mother, Margaret “Mag” Skrobarczyk Lenz was a homemaker.

Arthur was Art and Mag’s second child and oldest of the five boys. Art’s work took the family from West Central Texas to Alamogordo, El Paso, San Angelo, Sweetwater, Austin, and Houston, where Arthur became a lifelong fan of the Houston Astros baseball team.

From an early age, he enjoyed fishing, music, and sports. In the late 1960s, the family returned to live in San Antonio and Arthur attended St. Margaret Mary’s and St. Gerard’s High School, where Arthur participated in football and basketball at St. Gerard’s. He graduated from Highlands High School in the class of 1971.

From his experiences at the family ranch near Sutherland Springs and on various jobs including Rudy’s BBQ and Lenz Home Center, Arthur became known as a “jack of all trades.” As a construction project manager, he had an eye for detail. He had an appreciation for skilled tradesmen, mechanics, and everyday hardworking people.

Besides work, music, and sports, Arthur loved and treasured his children, Heather and Joshua, and grandson Ryan.

Arthur was preceded in death by his father, Arthur A. Lenz Jr.

He is survived by his life companion, Stephanie Reed; his son, Joshua; his daughter, Heather Brown and husband William T. of Newport News, Va.; his grandson, Ryan; his mother, Margaret Lenz; his siblings, Linda Kurtz and husband Roddy, Robert and wife Sydney, Mike and wife Janice, John and wife Carmen, and Joe and wife Arless; his father-in-law, Glenn Reed; as well as many nieces, nephews, and other extended family members.

The love in Arthur’s heart was immeasurable. He will be missed deeply.

A visitation took place on Wednesday, April 13, from 6-7 p.m. with a rosary recited at 7 p.m. in Our Lady of Czestochowa Shrine in San Antonio.

A funeral Mass was held on Thursday at 10 a.m. in St. Ann’s Catholic Church in La Vernia with Father Stan Fiuk officiating.

Inurnment followed in St. Ann’s Catholic Cemetery in La Vernia.

Donations may be made to Our Lady of Czestochowa Shrine, 138 Beethoven Rd., San Antonio, TX 78210.
