Mary Louise Johns Dott went to be with the love of her life, Ray Cheatham Dott, on Wednesday, April 13, 2011, at 10:42 a.m. in the Regency Manor nursing home in Floresville, Texas, at the age of 89 years, 10 months, and 18 days. She was born May 25, 1921.

Louise, the daughter of Otto and Ida Schellhase Johns, attended Labatt Country School and was a beautician for many years. Louise married Ray Dott on March 4, 1939, in Floresville. They lived in San Antonio and Texas City before moving to Floresville in 1975. Ray, Louise’s beloved husband of more than 37 years, preceded her in death on Aug. 7, 1976. Louise, known to so many as “Granny,” was very proud to have met many of our astronauts and had autographed pictures to prove it. She loved to bowl and did so into her 70s. She wanted everyone to know that her series high was 285. Her bowling team went to Las Vegas for nationals in the 1970s, and also won nationals in Tulsa, Okla.

Louise was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her brothers, O.C. Johns and Dan Johns; and her infant sister, Eva Johns.

She is survived by her son, R.C. “Dude” Dott of Floresville; her daughter, Cora Louise Deagen and husband Gene of Floresville; her grandchildren, Wanda Hildebrand and husband David, Cindi Bluhm and Robert Gonzales, and Kimberly Loessin and husband Brent; and her great-grandchildren, Peyton and Christopher Bluhm.

A visitation was held on Friday, April 15, from 6-8 p.m. in the Vinyard Funeral Home Chapel in Floresville.

A funeral service was held on Saturday at 4 p.m. in the First Lutheran Church in Floresville with the Rev. Phil Holck of Good News Lutheran Church in San Antonio officiating.

Interment followed in the Floresville City Cemetery in Floresville.

Serving as pallbearers were Keith Johns, Wade Johns, Bobby Johns, Jason Hall, Michael Viator, Danny Johns, Cary Morgenroth, Austin Morgenroth, and Christopher Bluhm.

The family requested memorials be made to the Good News Lutheran Church, 11020 Corpus Christi Road, San Antonio, TX 78223; the Eagle Creek Fire Department, 11382 F.M. 775, Floresville, TX 78114; or to the Floresville EMS, P.O. Box 595, Floresville, TX 78114.
