East Central FFA wins in Houston and Star of Texas livestock shows

The East Central FFA has been speaking, showing, judging and competing throughout the state the past two months.

During the Star of Texas Livestock Show in Austin, the following members placed: Jordan Hevner, first place, ABC steer; Kolton Dieckow, fourth place, turkey hen; Callie Rainosek, seventh place, turkey tom; and Shelbi Knox, seventh place, turkey hen.

During the Houston Livestock Show, the East Central FFA members placed multiple times.

The Evaluation Meats Team placed eighth. The team members included Michael Moczygemba, ninth place; Aaron Maron, Shelbi Knox, Jordan Hevner, and Ciarra Gawlik.

The Poultry Evaluation Team placed second with team members Kyle Brown, fifth place; Evan Pieniazek, eighth place; Jared Pieniazek, 11th place; Bethany Mihalec, Emileigh Geistweidt, and Stephenie Geistweidt.

The Tractor Tech Team was a top-10 finalist and advanced to the Champions floor. Tractor Tech Team members included Michael Moczygemba, Kyle Brown, and Levi Hevner.

The Floriculture Team finished 15th at Houston with team members Brooke Kosub, Amber Kerns, Christi Schick, Holly Bailey, and Amy Castleman.

The Nursery/Landscape Team also competed with team members Heather Kosub, Teal Piper, Erin Crow, Megan Vandernaap, and Lexie Ricks.

The Livestock Judging Team finished sixth with team members Ty Baird, Frank Aniol, Holden Black, Haily Marshall, Kaylee Reed, Jordan Hevner, and Zachary Williams.

The Wool Evaluation Team finished 15th with team members Diamond Mouton Bell and Fernando Ramos. Fernando also competed in the Wildlife Contest.

In the Multimedia Contest, Callan Sramek placed second overall with her project featuring the Texas Quality Counts Program.

Kylie Patterson placed third in the Junior Public Speaking Contest with her speech discussing Farm Subsidies.

Members who placed in the show ring at Houston were Levi Hevner, fourth place, Brangus steer; Jordan Hevner, fourth place, Brahman steer; Kylie Patterson, fourth place, Brahman steer; and Alexis Wagner, eighth place, American Steer and Starlett Award winner.

In the turkey show, members who placed were Koy Dieckow, Reserve Champion, turkey tom; Evan Pieniazek, 38th place, turkey tom; Shelbi Knox, 39th place, turkey tom; Cassidy Jordan, 41st place, turkey tom; Kolton Dieckow, third place, turkey hen; Jared Pieniazek, eighth place, turkey hen; Lindsay Hamer, 19th place, turkey hen; Krystal Zigmond, 21st place, turkey hen; Jordan Hevner, 22nd place, turkey hen; Johnna Pieniazek, 27th place, turkey hen; Jessica Hawkins, 32nd place, turkey hen; Dakota Hawkins, 42nd place, turkey hen; Kristen Sendemer, 47th place, turkey hen; and Jeffrey Noblitt, 49th place, turkey hen.

Members who competed in the Broilers Show were Shelbi Knox, 43rd place, pullets; Johnna Pieniazek, 97th place, cockerels; and Jared Pieniazek, 65th place, pullets.
