Help Wanted

Immanuel Lutheran Church is now hiring for a Youth and Family Ministry Director. Pastoral: Minister to youth and their families during Sunday School and other church programs, being present in their lives outside the church walls, available for common concerns and in crisis situations. Leadership: Recruit and nurture Youth and Family Ministry program. Administration : Manage the planning process and coordinate with Pastor and Youth Committee all regular ministries to youth and their families. This includes youth of all ages on Sunday mornings and mid-week events; assisting with Confirmation, special events, trips and retreats, and parent meetings. Stewardship: Ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of youth programs, manage youth ministry budget, and collaborate with the sponsors of each Youth group. Ability to build, lead, and empower youth. Ability to implement a ministry vision. Familiarity with Lutheran Doctrine required; must be comfortable teaching it and representing Lutheran Theology. Proficient computer skills using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, database, email, internet, and social media. Supervisory experience preferred. Ability to adapt and evaluate curriculum preferred. Must have excellent organization, communication (verbal and written), and listening skills, with a high degree of initiative and accountability. Exceptional interpersonal and relational skills required, with sensitivity to church members and visitors. Understanding and enjoyment of youth and families and guiding their spiritual development. Joe M. Garza passed away on Thursday, April 21, 2011, in Floresville, Texas, at the age of 71 years, 1 month, and 26 days. He was born in Pleasanton on Feb. 25, 1940, to Jesus Garza and Maria Martinez.

Joe was a Floresville resident for 41 years. He was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Floresville and a veteran of the Vietnam War, having served as a sergeant in the U.S. Marine Corps.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and his two sisters, Anita and Carmen.

Joe is survived by his daughters, Elisa Garza and Jaime Rodriguez, Jo Ann Morones and husband Mario, and Corry Lucio and husband Pete Lucio III, all of Floresville; his sisters, Carmelita Quintanilla of Floresville and Elisa Van Norwick of Jourdanton; his brothers, Raymond Garza and Jesse Garza, both of Pleasanton; his grandchildren, Caylen R. Lucio, Jacob R. Lucio, Bradley J. Rodriguez, Vanessa M. Rodriguez, Brooke N. Rodriguez, Heather R. Rodriguez, and Angel R. Morones; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A rosary was recited on Monday, April 25, at 7 p.m. in the Franklin Funeral Home Chapel in Floresville.

A Mass was celebrated on Tuesday at 3 p.m. in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church with the Rev. Phil Henning officiating.

Interment with full military honors followed in the Sacred Heart Catholic Cemetery in Floresville.

Pallbearers and motorcycle escorts were The Vietnam Veterans of America, Alamo Chapter 366.
