Immanuel Lutheran Church is now hiring for a Youth and Family Ministry Director. Pastoral: Minister to youth and their families during Sunday School and other church programs, being present in their lives outside the church walls, available for common concerns and in crisis situations. Leadership: Recruit and nurture Youth and Family Ministry program. Administration : Manage the planning process and coordinate with Pastor and Youth Committee all regular ministries to youth and their families. This includes youth of all ages on Sunday mornings and mid-week events; assisting with Confirmation, special events, trips and retreats, and parent meetings. Stewardship: Ongoing evaluation of the effectiveness of youth programs, manage youth ministry budget, and collaborate with the sponsors of each Youth group. Ability to build, lead, and empower youth. Ability to implement a ministry vision. Familiarity with Lutheran Doctrine required; must be comfortable teaching it and representing Lutheran Theology. Proficient computer skills using MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint, database, email, internet, and social media. Supervisory experience preferred. Ability to adapt and evaluate curriculum preferred. Must have excellent organization, communication (verbal and written), and listening skills, with a high degree of initiative and accountability. Exceptional interpersonal and relational skills required, with sensitivity to church members and visitors. Understanding and enjoyment of youth and families and guiding their spiritual development. Hulda Sommer Duelm, 90, passed away on Sunday, April 24, 2011. She was born on Jan. 20, 1921, in Seguin, Texas, to Frank and Adela Schneider Sommer.

She was baptized on Nov. 13, 1921, in the Methodist Episcopal Church in Seguin. She married Felix Duelm Sr. on Aug. 31, 1940, and was widowed in February 1990. Hulda was confirmed in the Immanuel Lutheran Church in La Vernia May 31, 1941, by Pastor Nic Frueh.

She was preceded in death by her parents; two brothers, John and Otto Sommer; four sisters, Hilda Strey, Frances Pettinos, Selma White, and Norma Bloch.

Hulda is survived by her sons, Felix Duelm Jr. and wife Marion, Aubrey Duelm, and Roger Duelm and wife Mary; her brother, Leroy Sommer Sr.; her sister, Cora Kosub; her grandchildren, Scott Duelm, Jodie Blume, Susan Woodall, Brian Duelm, Brent Duelm, and Bradley Duelm; and her great-grandchildren, Aaron Duelm, Amber Duelm, Zachary Duelm, Devin Blume, Trey Blume, Kamrin Blume, Sophie Duelm, and Troy Duelm.

A visitation took place Tuesday, April 26, from 5-9 p.m. in the Finch Funeral Chapel in La Vernia.

A funeral service will be held on Wednesday at 10 a.m. in the Immanuel Lutheran Church in La Vernia with Dr. Robert Palan officiating.

Interment will follow in the Immanuel Lutheran Cemetery in La Vernia.

Donations may be made to the Immanuel Lutheran Church quilting group.
