SAN MARCOS -- The Stockdale tennis team traveled to Texas State University April 20-21 to participate in the regional tennis tournament. Seven members of the team qualified to play by finishing first or second at the district tournament. Those players were Landon Coston, Dylan Dunn, Gabriella Salazar, Kristen Salazar, Lauryn Coston, Jessica Puente, and Jordan Jackson.

In singles play, Jackson worked his way through the competition and into the finals. In the finals, he met a player from Schulenburg, and won 6-4, 6-0, to end tournament play as the Regional Champion.

During girls doubles competition, Gabby and Kristen Salazar won their first three matches to earn a spot in the finals. The team from Hallettsville proved to be too much for Stockdale. Gabby and Kristen had to play the team from Dilley to see who would be going to state. The playback went to Dilley, but Gabby and Kristen ended the tournament as one of the top three teams, and finished with the bronze medals.

Landon Coston and Dylan Dunn, and Lauryn Coston and Jessica Puente all played well at the regional tournament, but all fell a little short in the first round. Coach Lester Jackson was very proud of all the players who worked hard to reach this level.

Jordan Jackson will now prepare for the state tournament to be held May 9-10 at Lakeway World of Tennis in Austin.
