DPS Criminal Investigations agents seized 9,440 pounds of marijuana after an 18-wheeler crashed into a utility pole near downtown McAllen Friday morning. The driver of the truck fled the scene after the crash but was apprehended soon after.

The agents had received information that the truck might contain marijuana and were following the truck in an unmarked vehicle when the crash occurred at the intersection of Galveston Street and 23rd Street in McAllen.

The driver has been identified as a 28-year-old man from Mexico. Investigators have not yet released the driver’s name.

The marijuana (a portion of which is shown above) has an estimated street value of $3,325,500. The investigation continues.
