There will be seven different elections taking place Saturday, May 14, within the Wilson County News’ coverage area. Whether voting early or on election day, it is important for the area’s registered voters to know the proper locations in which to cast ballots.

Early voting began May 2, and continues weekdays through Tuesday, May 10, with varying hours according to polling location. On election day, however, polls at all locations will be open from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m.

For information about the individual candidates running in these races, visit http://www.wilsoncountynews.com.

Hospital board

The Wilson Memorial Hospital District -- which oversees the Connally Memorial Medical Center in Floresville -- is not holding an election for Wilson County Precinct 3, where Keith Johanson was the only candidate to file. Elections are being held, however, in Precincts 1, 2, and 4, where representatives are elected according to the county’s current precinct boundaries.

Early voting for all races in this election takes place at Floresville City Hall, 1120 D St. in Floresville, from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

For more information on the hospital board election, call Shirley Bienek at the Connally Memorial Medical Center, at 830-393-1302.

ESD No. 3

Voters living in the eastern third of the county, who currently receive fire protection from either the Stockdale or Sutherland Springs volunteer fire departments, and ambulance services from the Stockdale Emergency Medical Services, are being asked to decide on the creation of Wilson County Emergency Services District (ESD) No. 3. If approved, property owners within the ESD would pay a property tax not to exceed 10 cents per $100 of assessed property value, which would fund fire protection and ambulance services.

Early voting in this election will be held from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. in the Wilson County Courthouse, 1420 Third St. in Floresville.

For more information, call the Wilson County Elections Office at 830-393-7368.

Poth streets tax

Poth residents are being asked to weigh in on the renewal of the city’s quarter-cent sales tax for maintenance and repair of municipal streets, which was first implemented in 2003.

Early voting in this election is in Poth City Hall, 200 N. Carroll St., from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. There will be extended hours, from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m., May 9 and 10.

For more information on this election, call 830-484-2111.

Floresville ISD

Among the area’s school boards, only the Floresville Independent School District is holding an election. Two candidates are vying to be selected as the trustee who will represent single-member District 7. Floresville City Hall at 1120 D St. is the polling location for both early voting and on election day. During early voting, polls are open from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

For more information on the school board elections, contact the Floresville ISD administration office at 830-393-5300.

City councils

Three of the area’s city councils are holding elections during this current cycle. In Elmendorf, where three city councilmen face opposition in their re-election bids, polling during early voting and on election day is in Elmendorf City Hall, 203 Bexar Ave. in Elmendorf. For more information, call 210-635-8210.

Polls in Elmendorf are open from 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. for early voting, with extended hours from 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. May 9-10.

Floresville also has three council places up for grabs, in which each incumbent faces a challenger. Polling during early voting and on election day is in Floresville City Hall.

Votes in Floresville can be cast from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Polls will be open until 8 p.m. on Friday, May 6, and Tuesday, May 10. For more information, call 830-393-3105.

In Stockdale, where two incumbent councilmen and the mayor face opposition, polling takes place in Stockdale City Hall, located at 700 W. Main. Hours are from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m.

For more information, call 830-996-3128.
