George Castellano of Deer Park, Texas, passed away in his home surrounded by his family on Wednesday, April 27, 2011. He was born July 26, 1943, in San Antonio to Alvino and Paula Castellano.
George graduated from Poth High School in 1963 and soon after joined the U.S. Army. After serving in the U.S. Army, George moved his family to Houston where he worked as a mailman for the U.S. Post Office and was an active member of the National Association of Letter Carriers. He retired after 38 years of service and was very proud of his “Million Mile Safety Award” for safe driving awarded by the post office.
George never met a stranger. He made friends everywhere he went. He was a prankster whose wonderful sense of humor was matched by his caring heart. George was an avid golfer, who happily greeted the sun on the golf course.
He was preceded in death by his parents; and his two nephews, Frankie Ryker and Felix Castellano.
George is survived by his wife, Betty; his children, Robert Castellano and wife Anita, David Castellano and wife Cynthia, Ralph Castellano and wife Ramona, Sonya Castellano-Lindeea, and Rachel Castellano.
George is also survived by his siblings, Frank Castellano and wife Eva, Julia Castellano-Hoyt and husband Don, Alvino Castellano and wife Anita, Juan Castellano and wife Bonne, Armando Castellano and wife Irene, Yolanda Cantu and husband Manuel, and Gracie Treviño and husband Chris. George leaves behind nine grandchildren whom he adored, Genesis, Jeremiah, Zacchaeus, Sarah, Bella, and Zacheriah Castellano, Vincent and Samuel Lindeea, and Abel Mendiola. Also surviving George are his best friend and cousin, Pete Orosco and wife Josie; his special cousins, Juanita Estrada and Julia Vera; and numerous nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
A memorial service and rosary will be held on Friday, May 6, at 7 p.m. in the Rosewood Funeral Home Chapel in Pasadena.
A funeral Mass will be celebrated on Saturday at 3 p.m. in the Blessed Sacrament Catholic Church in Poth.
George’s ashes will be interred at his parents’ resting place in the Blessed Sacrament Cemetery in Poth.
