Bertha Niemietz Sczepanik, a longtime resident of Adkins, Texas, entered into eternal rest on Tuesday, April 26, 2011, in the Country Care Manor nursing home in La Vernia at the age of 85 years, 2 months, and 12 days. Bertha was born in Kosciusko on Feb. 14, 1926, to Sylvester and Justina Pruski Niemietz. She had a St. Valentine’s birthday.

Bertha married Felix Sczepanik on Oct. 24, 1950, in Kosciusko. He preceded her in death on April 2, 2000. Bertha retired from the San Antonio Independent School District as a cafeteria worker and then was a housewife. She was a member of the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in St. Hedwig. She was a strong, devout Catholic.

Bertha dearly loved spending time with her family and especially enjoyed playing and watching her grandchildren grow up.

Bertha was preceded in death by her parents; her husband; her sisters, Dorothy Niemietz (infant), Christine Sutherland, and Filomena Wiatrek; and her brothers, Lambert, Leonard, Sylvester Jr., Fabian, and Virgil Niemietz.

She is survived by her daughter, Shirley Felux and husband Gerald of Kosciusko, and Cindy Schillo and Brenda Drzymala, both of Adkins; her grandchildren, Monica Keyser, Ashley, Denise, and Katie Drzymala, and Keith Felux; her great-grandchildren, Cassidy, Caylee, Gavin, and Caleb; her brother, Hagain Niemietz; her brothers-in-law, Ray Sczepanik and Gervase Sczepanik and wife Maxine; her sisters-in-law, Rose Niemietz, Mary Niemietz, Bernice Cobb, and Gracie Sczepanik; and numerous nieces and nephews.

A visitation was held on Thursday, April 28, from 5-8 p.m. with a rosary at 7 p.m. in the Finch Funeral Chapel in La Vernia.

A funeral Mass was held on Friday at 10 a.m. in the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Church in St. Hedwig with Father Bill Zadora officiating.

Interment followed in the Annunciation of the Blessed Virgin Mary Catholic Cemetery in St. Hedwig.

Serving as pallbearers were Keith Felux, Mark Soto, Eric Leonard, Bryan Brietzke, Monica Keyser, Ashley Drzymala, Denise Drzymala, and Katie Drzymala.
