Sydonia Baumann Burkett, a longtime resident of Floresville, Texas, entered into eternal rest on Friday, April 22, 2011, at 9:10 a.m. in the home of her daughters, Doris and Sandra, in Houston at the age of 94 years, 2 months, and 23 days.

Sydonia was born in Shiner on Jan. 29, 1917. She was the wife of the late Clyde M. Burkett and the mother of Doris Funk, Clyde W. Burkett, Sandra Davis, David Burkett, Bill Burkett, and Homer Burkett.

Sydonia was a resident of Floresville for most of her life. She spent the last 12 years in Houston with her two daughters, Doris and Sandra. She was a great cook, and an avid quilter and seamstress. Her hobbies included gardening and caring for animals. She was a fantastic homemaker who cared for her six children and grandchildren. She will be dearly missed by her children. However, they take comfort in knowing that she has fought the good fight, has completed her course, and is now resting in the arms of God.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Richard Henry Baumann and Elizabeth A. Seifert; her brothers, Mike Baumann, Henry Baumann, and Alton Baumann; her sisters, Esther Willey, Annie Hengst, Ella Baumann, and Norma Hawkins; and her granddaughter, Whitney Kay Burkett.

A visitation was held on Friday, April 29, from 3-5 p.m. with a rosary recited at 5 p.m. in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Floresville.

A funeral Mass was celebrated on Saturday at noon in the church with Father Phillip Henning officiating.

Interment followed in the Floresville City Cemetery in Floresville.

Serving as pallbearers were Chuck Prause, Pat Janota, Mike Shreve, Mike Prause, Tyler Burkett, and Cooter Burkett.

Serving as honorary pallbearers were Bryce Burkett, Dusty Burkett, Colt Burkett, Levi Burkett, Hunter Burkett, and Marc Heiser.

The family requests memorials be made to Houston Hospice, 1905 Holcombe Blvd., Houston, TX 77030.
