The Floresville FFA judging teams have been busy this spring getting ready for judging contests.

All preparations led up to the Area VII FFA contest which was held at Texas A&M University in College Station April 9.

The following teams competed:

The horse judging team consisted of Jackie Guerrero, Ashlyn Talley, and Ashley Wadle. This team’s task was to judge horses in halter and performance classes. This team placed sixth in the Guadalupe Valley District and 29th in Area VII.

The poultry judging team consisted of Victoria Schneider, Matthew Hosek, and Lacee Popham. This team’s task was to judge chickens, turkeys, and eggs, along with some poultry products. This team placed third in the Guadalupe Valley District and 11th in Area VII.

The dairy foods judging team consisted of Corinne Morkovsky, Brielle Brown, Lauren Moon, and Emerald Starling. This team’s task was to identify different types of cheese, defects in milk, and judge whether a product is a dairy product or not. This team placed first in the Guadalupe Valley District and sixth in Area VII.

This team advanced to the state contest held at Tarleton State University in Stephenville April 21.

These four girls are all freshmen and this is the first time that any of the current ag teachers at Floresville have trained this team.

The livestock judging team consisted of Luke Sisti, Haley Wares, Kalyn Sisti, Hannah Sawers, and Zeke Wiatrek. This team’s task was to place sheep, pigs, and cattle. This team placed first in the Guadalupe Valley District and fifth in Area VII. This team will advance to the state contest at Texas A&M University in College Station May 7. This is the fourth year in a row for this team to qualify for state and the seventh out of the last nine years.

These teams would like to thank all of their parents for their support and the moms who have chaperoned them at contests.

Floresville FFA advisors and team coaches are Mark Jarzombek and Mike Billings.

Those interested in participating on a judging team can call the Floresville High School Ag Department at 830-393-5370.
