POTEET -- Hadley Barrett will be in Atascosa County to celebrate the eighth anniversary of Cowboy Fellowship. He will be the featured announcer at the bullfight Saturday, May 7, at the Poteet Lions Arena on the Strawberry Festival grounds.

This year’s celebration event will feature two styles of bullfighting. Matador Enrique Delgado will perform a bloodless bullfight, and 2010 American Bullfighting Champion Evan Allard will also enter the ring.

Hadley Barrett is an institution in the world of rodeo. His mellow voice has entertained fans at almost every major rodeo across the country for more than 40 years.

Born and raised in North Platte, Neb., Barrett’s career began in the early 1950s when he announced his first rodeo in the Nebraska town of Arnold. He was inducted into the Pro Rodeo Hall of Fame in 1999, and in 2008, Barrett was inducted into the Cowboy Hall of Fame in Oklahoma City. He has also been honored at the Hall of Fame at Cheyenne Frontier Days. And when he is announcing, facts and tidbits of information flow from the microphone.

“There is absolutely tons of preparation for each rodeo,” Barrett said. “I guess you are a cross-section between a sports reporter, a master of ceremonies, and, in some cases, a stand-up comedian and entertainer.”

Barrett and the bullfighting will kick off May 7 at 6:30 p.m. Admission is $5 per person for those 10 years and older. A concession stand will be available. No ice chests or food items can be taken in.
