The deadline for ordering turkeys for all shows, Wilson County Junior Livestock Show, and the shows in San Antonio, Houston, Austin, and La Vernia is Friday, May 20.

Approximate cost is $3.50 per poult with a maximum order of 75 poults per family. Total order must be in increments of 25 (such as 25, 50, 75), so exhibitors may be asked to purchase more poults in order to meet this requirement.

In order to exhibit at the Houston Livestock Show and Rodeo, the San Antonio Stock Show & Rodeo, or the Star of Texas Fair and Rodeo, entry fees must be paid directly to that show during major show signup. Ordering and paying for poults does not enter an exhibitor in either show.

Club officer elections

Some 4-H clubs will have election of officers in May.

The Wilson County Extension Office encourages the members to put a lot of consideration into the leadership qualities as well as the responsibilities that are involved with each elected office and nominate and elect those members who will best serve the club and county.

Club managers are asked to report a list of their newly elected officers, with phone numbers, to the Extension office as soon as possible. Please take with you the date, location, and time of your 4-H meetings to be held in 2011-12 so that the Extension office can update the 4-H Handbook.

Deadline to turn election data in is Friday, May 27. If it is not turned in by this date, your club will not be in the book.

For more information, call the Wilson County office of the Texas AgriLife Extension Service at 830-393-7357.
