La Vernia players selected for all-star game

SAN ANTONIO -- La Vernia High School seniors Troy Arnold and Logan Mills have been selected to play in the 33rd annual Pizza Hut High School All-Star Football Game this Saturday, May 21, at 7:30 p.m. in Heroes Stadium in San Antonio. This charity event showcases outstanding area high school football seniors from the previous fall season. Arnold will play defensive end and Mills will play on the offensive line for the East Team.

Advance tickets are available prior to game day for $8 at all H-E-B stores with business centers. All tickets sold on game day will be $10. The game will be replayed by Time Warner Cable’s San Antonio On Demand channel 988 beginning May 30. In addition, the game will be broadcast live on the Texas Sports Radio Network (KLUP-AM 930).

Kids Sports Network conducts the event with support from the Olmos Kiwanis Club. Proceeds benefit area youth charities. In the past 32 years, the game has raised more than $700,000 for area youth organizations.

More than 60 area high schools are offered an opportunity to nominate players for the game. Of the players currently on the roster, 19 received All-State honors, 25 received all-city honors, and 81 received all-district honors. Players are geographically divided into East and West squads based on the locations of their schools.
