1933-2011

Marion Benz Sanchez, 77, passed away on Saturday, May 7, 2011. She was born Aug. 25, 1933. Marion was a beloved wife, mother of eight, and friend.

Thank you for the joy and happiness you brought to our lives each day. Thank you for your generosity, nurturing care, and unwavering love. Thank you for your strength, selflessness, and always being there when we needed you. Thank you for your kind smile and constant encouragement. Thank you for always wanting the very best for us and always putting yourself second.

Thank you for the grace and dignity you demonstrated despite the increasing challenges you faced, from surviving the horrors of World War II in Germany as a teenager to settling in a new country, the United States, with your beloved husband, to bearing the loss of two children, to raising six children who all deeply love and admire you, and perhaps most admirably, for the grace and dignity you displayed in your long battle with cancer, without ever taking pity upon yourself during the many months of pain and suffering you endured. To the end, you were always more concerned about others and how your illness was affecting them. You are an inspiration to all of us!

Your time with us was too short. We would have liked for you to be forever in our lives. You will be deeply missed. Our love for you will not fade, but will grow stronger in our hearts with time as we reflect on the goodness of your heart and cherish the many wonderful memories we shared with you. We will feel your loving presence in our lives forever. You are a kind, soft-spoken, and gentle soul who will truly be welcomed in heaven. Until we’re together again,

Your loving husband, Rudy, and children, Marion, Angela, Rudy, Jr., Elenor, Diane, and Sonya.

Marion was the daughter of Walter and Katharina Benz.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her son, Gary; and her daughter, Sonya Grace.

Marion is survived by her loving husband of 61 years, Rudy Sanchez; her beautiful children, Marion Escarcega and husband Daniel, Angela Neipp and husband Andreas, Rudy Sanchez Jr. and wife Patricia, Elenor Johnson and husband Larry, Diane Martin and husband Andy, and Sonya Ross and husband Bret; eight grandchildren; 11 great-grandchildren; and her sister, Renate.

Marion’s memorial service was a celebration of her life.

A visitation began at 5 p.m. and a rosary was recited at 7:30 p.m. on Monday, May 9, in the Sacred Heart Catholic Church in Floresville.

A funeral Mass was celebrated at 10 a.m. on Tuesday in the church with Father Phil Henning officiating.

Interment followed in the Sacred Heart Cemetery in Floresville, Texas.

Serving as pallbearers were Rudy Sanchez Jr., Andy Martin, Larry Johnson, Cory Baird, Danny Escarcega, Andreas Neipp, and Bret Ross.
