Call for entries for horticulture show
Area gardeners are invited to show off their prized plants and compete for awards in the second annual Alamo Area Horticulture Show, Saturday, May 28, from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. during the Festival of Flowers at Alzafar Shrine. The Bexar County Master Gardeners, the Texas Nursery and Landscape Association, and the Texas AgriLife Extension Service will host the event. Entries from juniors and adults will be judged separately.
Divisions include containerized foliage, blooming, and cactus and succulent plants. There is a second division for cut flowers and blooms, along with cut foliage. A division for special displays includes categories for hanging baskets, container gardens, and dish gardens, topiaries, and bonsai. The final division is reserved for vegetables and fruit, including “grower’s choice” for harvested in-season crops.
The contest is open to Bexar and surrounding counties. Fee for each entry is $5. Entries will be accepted at Alzafar Shrine, 901 W. Loop 1604 North, from 3-7 p.m. Friday, May 27, and 8-10 a.m. Saturday, May 28.
Entries will be judged beginning at 11 a.m. on Saturday, and announced at 12:30 p.m.
